A Good Introduction To Off Site Search Engine Optimization – What You Should Know

I worked as a SEO person as a summer job like 2 years ago, and today I decided to write about some basic information that I know about off-site SEO. This blog post is mostly written for new website owners as it contains the most important and basic information one should know about the way of creating sites and some peculiarities regarding the search engines. As soon as you create a new web site, you are supposed to tell the Internet users that you exist. So when we talk either about SERPs or PageRank it’s quite important to keep in mind a few factors.

In other words, you will start off-site SEO once you optimize a new site with right keywords in the proper places (meaning you should have already decided the niche / subject of your website and have some content on it). To achieve the highest search engine results placements (which we can refer to as SERPs) you have to be in good relations with the search engines. That means, off-site search engine optimization is particularly necessary in order to catch the attention of search engines. So let’s observe some offsite SEO techniques.

The first words are about link building and back links. By increasing your link building campaign, you will make better your SEO. In other words, you are supposed to have another site with a link pointing at your own website. Such links usually look like certain kinds of votes. Because if another website is vouching for your website it basically means that your website has content worth reading, therefore this is a +1 to your website.

The most basic way of getting back links is, you will have to write an article and submit it to some other website. Shortly speaking, you submit an attention grabbing article to a large article directory for the customers to take notice of your web site. On the other hand, when you submit your short article to article ezines (online magazines) or article directories you will have a chance to increase the amount of people who will be able to visit your site in the future, because more people will read about your website, therefore you will increase potential visitors, and you should include a link or two into the article, so you will have another one or two back links.

Although this is a very easy and nice technique to get back links, there are better ways (that will count more when it comes to search engine ranking), but these ways might be harder. Basically it will be even better if you have a back link on a website that contains information similar to yours (meaning getting back links on other websites that are about your same niche or subject). To achieve this you should make some searching of your own to find websites that are about the same subject as your websites’ and you should contact them via email asking them for a link exchange, meaning, you will put a link on your website linking to their website and they make a link on their website linking to your website. In this case, dealing with Page Rank is quite tempting but are you sure you want your visitors to be directed to another site? (since you will have a link to their website)

Forum posting also seems to be quite effective only in case you post significant and great information which might get you a few extra visitors and back links. To do this, just put your website’s URL in your signature. You can even search for bogs about your same subject and leave a GOOD comment (not spammy comments, because those will be deleted) and in the URI field leave your websites’ address.

Another method is to find good link directories where you will be able to list your website and url for free (although some of them will want a reciprocal link), but most of these link directories are shit, and not very good.

Actually, to make a long story short, there a few ways that are able to help you with off-site SEO. But as soon as you observe the results you will be motivated to continue and to improve the quality of you off-site SEO by finding new ways to promote your website.

I am planning on writing another blog post about some on-site techniques I know that will help you rank even better in search engines.

I've never had any luck with link directories. I spend countless hours submitting with hardly any results. Forum Posting is ok, when the new thread with your signature is active, current and live. After a week or so, that traffic falls off as well but at least you get a good link back.

Deep links are also important. These are the links to URLs several levels inside your website, just just the home page. IE: http://www.google.com/analytics/ is a deep link because it links to /analytics/ instead of /.
