Access Denied – Cannot Delete File Quick and Simple Fix
We all hate this error when we try to delete some file and Windows comes up with an error and it will not let you delete the file. You end up rebooting your computer to delete this file.

Why does this happen? This usually happens what that file is being used by another application and it ‘forgets’ to end the connection with that file. Sometimes this happens when I upload a picture using Firefox and then I try to delete the picture afterwards.. I end up closing Firefox to be able to do that, and in some other cases I don’t know what software is or was using that file so I end up rebooting the system to delete the file.

Well, there is a simple way around this, you will be able to delete the file you want without having to know which application is using the file or closing the application in case you know which application is suing the file or worse, rebooting the system.

There is a small tool called Unlocker, you can download it from http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtml. This is a very small tool, which is freeware, and will surely save you a lot of trouble and reboots.

Once you install it you will have an extra option in your context menu when you will right click on a file, you will have something like this:

Now, next time you have a file that you cannot delete just right click on it, press Unlocker, and you will be displayed with a simple screen like this:

This will show you which process is using the file and denying you from deleting the file. Just click ‘Unlock’ or ‘Unlock All’ if more than one process is using the file in that list.
Now just go back and delete the file, and BAM, it will delete straight away because this software will break the connection between the process and the file.
