Hey !

Today I'm going to show you how to create a nice book icon for your site or a blog. So let's start.

1. Create Icon

First you must create a Photoshop document. I'll use size 250 x 250 (widht x height).

Grab a "Rounded Rectangle Tool" and create something like this:

Now right click on your layer and select "Blending Options". If it's done set this setting:

Now duplicate your layer by holding down CTRL and pressing J. Now right click on your new layer, select "Blending Options" and set this setting:

Now use "Rectangle Marquee Tool" to select the excess color and delete it, just like that:

Now use arrows to move this top layer little bit up, like this:

Now select your first layer and go Select -> Load Selection and press OK. Now select your second layer and go Select -> Inverse and press Delete to remove excess color, like this:

Now select your first layer and duplicate it. If it's done put it top of the second layer like this so your icon looks like this:

Now use arrows to move your layer up like this:

Now select your first layer go Select -> Load Selection and press OK. Now select your third layer and go Select -> Inverse and press Delete to remove excess color like this:

Now duplicate your second layer and put it in top of the third layer so it will look like this:

Now use your arrows to move this layer little bit more up so it will look like this:

Now select your first layer and go Select -> Load Selection and press OK. Then select your fourth layer and go Select -> Inverse. Press Delete to remove excess color so it will look like this:

Create a new layer. Grab "Recangular Marquee Tool" and draw something like this:

Now right click on your layer and select "Blending Options". If it's done set this setting:

Create a new layer and use "Single Row Marquee Tool" to create something like this:

Now select your layer below this layer where you have those lines (it should be this white color layer) and go Select -> Load Selection and press OK. Now selecte the upper layer and go to Select -> Inverse and press Delete to remove excess color. If it's done change it's layer's opacity to 20% so it would like this:

Create a new layer and use "Single Column Marquee Tool" to create something like this:

Now select your first layer and go Select -> Load Selection and press OK. Then go Select -> Inverse and press Delete to remove excess color. Now select "Rectangular Marquee Tool" and remove color from "pages" area so it will look like this:

Now change this layers opacity to 20% and write your text onto that book and you are done.

2. Final Words

Well.. you are done now. My outcome looks like this:

I hope you like this tutorial and if you have any questions, feel free to ask from me.

Regards,
Jaan
